Basketball Resumes Road Play, Travels To Take On Auburn

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Golden Eagles play in the final non-conference game of the season, traveling to take on Auburn on Wednesday, Jan. 4. Tip-off for the game is set for 4:45 p.m., CT.
Wednesday's game will be broadcast over the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network, with the "Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and legendary coach M.K. Turk calling the action. Air time begins at 4:15 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
Southern Miss, under the direction of Head Coach Larry Eustachy, enters the game with a 6-8 overall record, falling in its last game, 87-82 in overtime to McNeese State. Auburn, under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Lebo currently holds a 7-3 overall record following Saturday's 87-83 win over Jacksonville State.
Jarekus Singleton currently leads the Golden Eagles with a scoring average of 10.1 points per game, following a season-best 21 points against McNeese. Courtney Beasley (9.3 ppg) and Jason Forte (8.7) both follow in scoring. Mildon Ambres leads the team in rebounds with an average of 4.7 per game, and Kyle Lamonte has a team-high 46 assists on the year.
Ronny LeMelle leads the team in scoring with 12.3 points per game, while Rasheem Barrett (11.2 ppg) and Josh Dollard (10.0 ppg) are both averaging in double digits. Dollard has a team-best 5.1 rebounds per game, and Quantez Robertson has a team-best 51 assists. Auburn is 7-0 in games played at home this season.
The game marks the 15th overall meeting between Southern Miss and Auburn with the Tigers holding a 13-1 advantage. The series began on Dec. 14, 1963, and the teams have met 10 times in Auburn, twice in neutral locations and twice at home. Southern Miss' only win of the season since the series came on Dec. 29, 1989, an 84-73 victory at the Blue Angel Classic in Pensacola, Fla. The Tigers have won the last 11 meetings, with the most recent coming on Dec. 30, 2003, a 78-60 final.
Following the game, Southern Miss takes a week off from play before opening the Conference USA portion of the schedule, Wed., Jan. 11, against Tulane. Tip-off for that contest is set for 7 p.m.
