Basketball Falls to Tulsa 72-63

TULSA, Okla. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team dropped the first Conference USA road game of the season, falling to host Tulsa, 72-63, Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles fell to 7-10 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Golden Hurricane improved to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Down by as many as 11 points in the second half, Southern Miss chipped away at the lead and pulled to within three points three separate times, the last at 62-59 on Travis Hall's jumper in the paint with 2:28 remaining in the game. But Tulsa went on a 6-0 run in the closing time to put the game away -- four of them on free throws.
Southern Miss led by as many as four points in the first half, but Tulsa held the 37-31 lead at the half, connecting on 12-of-14 free throws to Southern Miss' two.
Courtney Beasley scored 16 points and Hall added a career-high 15 for the Golden Eagles.
Brett McDade led Tulsa with 18 points, while Anthony Price added 15 points. Darold Crow also scored in double figures with 12.
Southern Miss stays on the road for the next league contest, traveling to face the University of Houston on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Tip time for that game is set for 7 p.m. Also, the Southern Miss Luncheons -- held every Monday at Buffalo Wild Wings in Hattiesburg -- will go on as scheduled on Monday. The luncheon begins at noon.
