Southern Miss Head Coach Larry Eustachy
On getting off the good start and holding off the comeback: "We were in a similar situation against McNeese State and really struggled, eventually losing the game. I know that was in the back of the players' minds. I thought we really showed some progress. I felt we executed our best basketball in the last three minutes. I was proud of our guys."
On defending the Tulane players: "We worked hard to not let them catch it. Davis and Gomez are two really good frontline players, so we wanted to limit their catches. Half their points have been coming in the paints, and I think we made them work for it. You have to give Tulane credit. They kept fighting back and just wouldn't go away."
On Jason Forte's play: "Jason Forte really wanted to win this game. He really willed this team tonight."
On getting off to the quick start: "Coach has been telling to us to have a great beginning and a great end. He wanted for us to come out harder than the other team and be ready. It was a big win for us."
On the defensive pressure: "That's what we have been working on in practice - playing great defense and contesting shots."
On winning the first league game: "It's always great to start 1-0 in Conference USA. It gives us a bit of confidence going into the Tulsa game this weekend."
On the confidence improving during the game: "That's what I try to bring to this program - toughness. It's my last season in Conference USA. It's great to be a leader, and lead by example."
Tulane Head Coach Dave Dickerson
On the turnovers in the game: "That's been our problem all year. It's a tough pill to swallow because turnovers come from not being tough, and we were out-toughed tonight by Southern Miss. We knew coming in here that we had to do those intangible things well to win the game. You have give Southern Miss credit for being there."
On Jason Forte: "He's the kind of kid that you can win a lot of games with. I was impressed with his toughness and impressed with his playing 39 minutes. He probably could have played more."
