Golden Eagle Newcomers Report To Campus Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? With a little less than a month remaining until the 2005 season opener, the Southern Miss football team kicks off its fall campaign on Friday, when the newcomers report to campus.

The newcomers will check in between 12:30 p.m., and 3 p.m., Friday, and then will begin a hectic, four-day schedule that includes orientation meetings with coaches and athletic staff, as well as acclimation practices.

Unlike the past two seasons however, the first-year players will not report on the same day as the varsity players. Instead, the varsity players come to campus on Monday, Aug. 8. The team then officially kicks off full squad practices on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Southern Miss opens the season on Sept. 4, when the Golden Eagles host Tulane in the annual "Battle for the Bell", at 3 p.m., at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
