Football Continues Practice For 2005 Season Opener
HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Golden Eagle football team got a bit of a breather today, as practice was cut 30 minutes short.
Head Coach Jeff Bower said the shortened practice was warranted.
?Practice was fine today,? Bower said. ?We didn?t go very long. We?ve got some guys that are pretty tired. We need some time off.?
Bower said the team will get even more time off, following a 5:30 a.m., Friday practice, giving the team the remainder of Friday and Saturday off, before returning to campus on Sunday night.
?I know the players are looking forward to it,? Bower said. ?We need it. The players have worked hard. We?ve worked in a lot of heat.?
Bower said that redshirt freshman fullback Cole Mason (bruised knee) was limited in practice today and that redshirt freshman Travis Clark was held out of practice today because he got overheated in practice yesterday. Bower also said that senior quarterback Dustin Almond (back) is doing better, after sustaining an accidential hit in practice on Tuesday.
?He?s fine,? Bower said. ?He threw today and was involved in everything. He?s not at full speed and he?s sore, but he is better.?
Southern Miss opens its season Sunday, Sept. 4, in a 3 p.m., nationally televised ESPN2 contest, in the annual ?
