Monday Night?s Practice Cancelled Due To Weather
HATTIESBURG, Miss.? Heavy rain and lightening forced the cancellation of Monday night?s practice set for 7 p.m., in what was supposed to be the second to last two-a-day practice. The team was able to practice for two hours this morning at the Joe P. Park practice facility.
Head Coach Jeff Bower was disappointed that Monday night?s practice had to be cancelled due to the weather.
?You can?t control the weather,? Bower said. ?Even if we had tried to practice this afternoon, we would not have gotten the practice in. The weather was terrible. We might have gotten 30 minutes in, but there was lightening everywhere and right on top of us. That?s the only thing that makes me feel good. We couldn?t have practiced even if we wanted to.?
In the morning?s session, Bower thought the team?s effort could have been better, considering Sunday?s off day after a long scrimmage on Saturday.
?I wasn?t real happy with this morning,? Bower said. ?We?re at the point now where practice is tough. Players are sore, legs are heavy and they are hurting a little bit. Everyone in the country is going through it. We?ve got to push through it.?
Bower said that the coaching staff had a chance to view the tape from Saturday?s scrimmage, and were pleased with what they saw from the offense.
?I thought the offense did a good job,? Bower said. ?Defensively, there were a lot of mistakes. We had some missed assignments. We gave up some big plays because we made some critical errors. Our youth showed up at times. There is a lot of room for improvement in everything we do.?
Bower also announced that redshirt freshman Ladarius Webb had earned a starting position in the secondary, based on his performance in the scrimmage.
On Tuesday, the team will hold its final two-a-day practice, making up for Monday night. On Wednesday, which was scheduled to be the team?s final two-a-day practice, the team will only practice one time. Bower added that the team would do a small scale scrimmage on Wednesday.
