Football Wraps Up Saturday Session, Second Scrimmage On Sunday
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss football team completed a two-hour Saturday practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Field and now has its sights set on the second scrimmage of the spring season on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles practiced in just shoulder pads and shorts in preparation for tomorrow's scrimmage. Sunday's workout is scheduled for 2 p.m., and will be held at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
"We lightened up a little bit to try and get ready for tomorrow," Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We did a lot of fundamental work. We didn't do much as far as going against each other; instead we just concentrated on a lot of individual group work."
In the first scrimmage on April 3, Bower was displeased with overall performance, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
"Obviously, I want our team to make plays," Bower said. "Last week was a good example that, if you don't play with enthusiasm, it will be tough to be good. We didn't make plays, and I'm hopeful that we'll clean our execution up."
Southern Miss will continue with their NCAA-mandated 15 spring practices with Sunday's scrimmage, and then will take Monday off before returning to the field on Tuesday. Spring workouts conclude with the annual Black and Gold Spring Game, set for April 16, at 1 p.m.
