Softball Falls To Mississippi State, 5-2
With the win,
The Lady Bulldogs loaded the bases in the top of the third inning, singles by Lindsay Hunley and Nakita Boyce, in addition to a walk by Courtney Bures. But Jennifer Jessup grounded out to Ashley Davis to end the inning.
Southern Miss got two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning. After two quick outs, Charity Butler walked, and advanced to second on a single by Melissa Prouty. Allison Bullard followed with a single and advanced to second on a fielding error by Cooley, which allowed
Stephanie Comeaux (8-5) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while walking four and striking out five. Regan Blake earned her fifth save this season for
Krystal Crooks (10-7) took the loss for Southern Miss, allowing eight hits and five runs, while walking five and striking out four.
Hunley and Bures both had two hits for
Southern Miss returns to action Saturday and Sunday, in a three-game series at DePaul. Game times are 12 and 2 p.m., on Saturday, with the series finale at 12 p.m., on Sunday.
