Softball Falls In Doubleheader To Houston

Krystal Crooks struck out a career-high six batters today against Houston. |
With the losses, Southern Miss falls to 19-28 overall, 5-12 in Conference
In the first game, Lady Eagle pitcher Danielle Wymer took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. She got the first two outs in the inning, before Jaci Gonzalez connected on a RBI double to right field, which scored Brooke Johnson, who was on base with a walk, as Houston took a 3-0 lead.
?Danielle pitched a great ballgame,? Southern Miss Head Coach Gay McNutt said. ?We just couldn?t get anything going offensively..?
Wymer (8-13) pitched her ninth complete game of the season in a losing effort, as she recorded the best pitching performance of her career, allowing jut one hit. Wymer also struck out seven, against three walks.

Southern Miss had an opportunity to knot the contest at 1-1 in the seventh. Charity Butler walked to lead off the inning, and

Crooks (10-10) took the loss, but pitched her 14th complete game of the season, striking out a career-high six batters, while walking one.
Jessica Huerta led the team with two hits and two stolen bases on the day.
The two teams will meet in the series finale, Sunday, at 1 p.m., at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
