Football Ready For Spring Game
? The Southern Miss football team concluded final preparations for Saturday?s Spring Black and Gold Game today, with an hour and a half practice in M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Head Football Coach Jeff Bower said he is pleased with the team's progress so far this spring, though he continues to be concered with injuries.
?I hope we have a good game and stay healthy,? Bower said. ?I hope we stay healthy. We?re looking forward to seeing how some guys will perform. We?re going to get a look at all of our players and play a regular game situation.?
?We?re looking for guys who will perform and help us win a championship,? Bower added. ?There are a lot of guys who need to find their role on this team, and we?re going to take a good look at some of them.?
Bower said having honorary coaches Brigadier General Jeff Hammond and Gene Carlisle on the sidelines is special for the football team.
?Jeff spoke to our team this morning and it was powerful,? Bower said. ?He gave us a tremendous message. I?m thankful for all of his sacrifices, especially during his 13 months in
?Gene has been a tremendous supporter of Southern Miss athletics,? Bower said. ?We didn?t miss a day of practice, and his generous donation of our field turf has meant a lot to our team.?
Bower also encouraged fans to come watch the game tomorrow.
?We should have a great crowd tomorrow,? Bower said. ?You can?t ask for better weather.?
The Southern Miss Black and Gold game will begin at 1 p.m., in M.M. Roberts Stadium.
