Softball To Take On Louisville This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Southern Miss softball team, off a Wednesday night doubleheader sweep of Northwestern State, travels to Louisville this weekend, for a crucial Conference USA series for both teams. Links to this weekend?s live stats are on the bottom of the page.
Southern Miss and Louisville meet for the 22nd, 23rd and 24th time this weekend. In its series history against Louisville, Southern Miss has a 15-6 record, including a 4-2 mark at Louisville. Southern Miss swept the Lady Cardinals in 2000, and took one of three games in 2003. Last season, Southern Miss swept Louisville in three games last season in Hattiesburg, to claim the Conference USA regular-season title.
The Lady Eagles and Lady Cardinals met earlier this season, in a non-conference game, Feb. 19, at the Mardi Gras Classic in Monroe, La., with Louisville claiming a 4-0 victory.
Southern Miss, 19-18 overall, 5-4 in Conference USA, enters this weekend's series after sweeping Northwestern State in a Wednesday doubleheader, 5-4 and 4-3. In the series, Southern Miss stole 11 bases in 11 attempts, including four in game two by Allison Bullard, which tied a school record, matching Chrystal Stevens? mark set against USF (5/6/00).
The Lady Eagles hit .288 as a team, with 170 runs, 273 hits, 57 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs, 153 RBI and 70 stolen bases.

Ashley Davis leads the team with six home runs, and was tabbed Conference USA?s hitter of the week on Mar. 21, following a three home run performance at Saint Louis. Davis connected on two longballs in the second game against the Lady Billikens, which tied a school record for most home runs in a game. Jennifer Fox has a team-high 17 walks, also ranking second on the team with 24 RBI.
The team?s pitching staff has an ERA of 3.51, with 21 complete games and nine shutouts. In 245 innings of work, it has allowed 266 hits, 159 runs, 123 earned, 84 walks and 132 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .273 batting average.
Krystal Crooks earned her 10th win of the season against Northwestern State Wednesday night, and leads the team with a 10-5 record and 11 complete games. In 114.2 innings of work, she has allowed 113 hits, 55 runs, 41 earned, 28 walks, 38 strikeouts, while holding batters to a .254 average.
Danielle Wymer got her eighth win of the season Wednesday against Northwestern State, and leads Southern Miss with four shutouts on the season. Wymer also has a team-high 75 strikeouts, which is a single-season high for the junior pitcher.
Louisville stands 19-12 overall on the season, 5-1 in Conference USA, after sweeping UAB on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lady Cardinals hit .276 as a team, with 112 runs, 228 hits, 39 doubles, 17 triples, 29 home runs, 104 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
Courtney Moore leads the team with a .389 batting average, also leads the team with seven home runs, 22 RBI and six triples this season. Audrey Rendon has a team-high 40 hits and 10 stolen bases, while Lisa Estes has a team best eight doubles.
Louisville's pitching staff has an ERA of 1.80, including 22 complete games and 11 shutouts. It has allowed 135 hits, 76 runs, 53 earned, walked 96, struck out 195 and holds opposing teams to a .181 batting average.
Catherine Bishop leads the staff with a 1.30 ERA and 11-5 record, including five shutouts and 11 complete games. In 102.1 innings of work, she has allowed 63 hits, 33 runs, 19 earned, 49 walks, 84 strikeouts, while holding batters to a .168 average. Aja Sherman has an 8-7 record and 2.30 ERA, with five shutouts and 11 complete games.
Following the Louisville series, Southern Miss returns home to face in-state rival Mississippi State on Wednesday, April 6, in a 6 p.m., single-game contest.
