Softball Sweeps Two Over Northwestern State
Allison Bullard tied a school record with four stolen bases in game two against Northwestern State. |
Charity Butler's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, gave Southern Miss a 5-4 game one victory over Northwestern State. |
With the sweep, Southern Miss improves to 19-18 overall and won its sixth straight game over the Lady Demons.
In game one, Northwestern State took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, on a RBI double by Margaret Patterson, a RBI single by Lyndsey Gorski and a two-RBI double by Katrina Walker.
Southern Miss was held without a hit until the fourth inning by Lady Demon pitcher Michelle Castellano, when Ashley Davis singled up the middle.
The Lady Eagles go on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Ashley Brenan walked, and advanced to second after Jessica Huerta was hit by a pitch. Following a fly out by Diane Hammes, Jennifer Fox connected on a RBI single to left field, scoring Brenan, to make the score 4-1.
In the top of the seventh, the game suffered a 40 minute rain delay, but it would prove to be a positive delay.
Sue Logan led off with a single to left and Brenan followed with a walk. Huerta singled, which loaded the bases. Following a Lady Demon pitching change to Amanda Glenn, she was charged with an illegal pitch, which scored
Danielle Wymer (8-10) got the win for Southern Miss, pitching seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out four.

In game two, Southern Miss took a 2-0 lead in the second. Bullard walked with one out and stole second base.
Southern Miss extended its lead to 4-0 in the fourth.
Crooks (10-5) got the win for Southern Miss, allowing six hits and three runs, walking one and striking out one, in pitching her 11th complete game of the season.
Castellano took the loss for
Bullard stole four bases in game two, tying a school record set by Chrystal Stevens against USF on May 6, 2000.
Logan, Davis and Fox each finished the series with two hits, while Logan, Brenan and Bullard each scored two runs. Fox led the team with two RBI in the series. Southern Miss also finished the doubleheader with 11 stolen bases in 11 attempts.
Southern Miss returns to action Saturday and Sunday, in a weekend Conference
