Softball Falls To USF In Series Finale
HATTIESBURG,
With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 17-18 overall, 5-4 in league play. USF improves to 25-15, 4-2.
USF took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, thanks to a two-run home run by Carly Griffin.
The Lady Bulls added four runs in the fourth, to take a 6-0 lead. After Tiffany Stewart reached on an fielding error by Ashley Brenan,
USF took a 7-0 lead in the fifth, on a solo home run by Sarah Watson.
Southern Miss got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, on a RBI single by Jessica Huerta that scored Allison Bullard, who started the inning with a walk, making the score 7-1.
In the sixth, an RBI single by Krista Holle made the score 8-1, to provide the final margin.
Krystal Crooks (9-5) took the loss for Southern Miss, allowing seven hits, six runs, four earned, walking four and striking out one. 3.2 innings of work. Danielle Wymer pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing two hits and two runs, walking two and striking out three.
Bree Spence (11-6) got the win for USF, allowing five hits and one run, while walking one, in five innings of work.
Huerta led Southern Miss with two hits.
Southern Miss returns to action Wednesday, Mar. 30, hosting
