Softball Falls To Mississippi State, 9-0
STARKVILLE, Miss.? Southern Miss? in-state meeting against Mississippi State did not go as planned, as the Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Bulldogs, 9-0, in six innings.

With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 10-8 on the season, while Mississippi State improves to 12-6.

Mississippi State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Keri McFarling led off the inning with a triple. On the play, Jessica Huerta and Allison Bullard were both injured chasing a ball in the first inning, left the game and did not return. McFarling scored on a RBI single from Courtney Bures, but Danielle Wymer escaped further damage by striking out the final two batters of the inning.

The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to 4-0 in the third inning, on a three-run home run from Jennifer Jessup.

Mississippi State added two more runs in the fourth inning, as Katie Cooley scored on a throwing error by Sue Logan, while Lindsay Hunley scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Bures, making the score 6-0.

The Lady Bulldogs added a run in the fifth, as Jessup scored on an error by Ashley Brenan.

Bures hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Ashley Davis finished the game with two hits for Southern Miss, including a double.

Melissa Massey got the win for Mississippi State, pitching six innings, allowing three hits, while walking two and striking out three.

Wymer took the defeat for Southern Miss, pitching 2.1 innings, giving up four hits, four runs, three earned, walking one and striking out two.

Southern Miss returns to action this weekend, as the begin Conference USA action, hosting Charlotte. Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m., on Saturday, with the series finale set for 1 p.m., on Sunday.
