Softball Falls To Samford
The Lady Bulldogs scored five runs in the first inning, on a RBI double by Shelley Stanley and a RBI single from Bethany Weisser.
Southern Miss cut the lead down to three, 5-2 in the fourth. Jessica Huerta led off the inning with a triple, her second of the season, and scored on a RBI double from Ashley Brenan. Brenan scored on a RBI single by Jennifer Fox.
The Lady Eagles left single baserunners on base in the fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to get any runs across the plate.
Susanna Meyer (3-3) got the win for Samford, pitching seven innings, scattering three hits, two runs, while walking one and striking out seven.
Danielle Wymer (2-3) took the loss for Southern Miss, allowing five runs, three earned, eight hits, walking one and striking out one.
Brenan, Fox and Huerta each had hits for Southern Miss, while Stanley and Liz Pearse each had two hits for Samford.
Southern Miss returns to action Saturday afternoon, in a 1 p.m., contest against
