Softball Defeats Marist College 11-3
The Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Jessica Huerta scored on a wild pitch by Marist pitcher Megan Rigos.
Marist added a run in the third, on a RBI single from Bridget Hurlman.
Southern Miss expanded its lead with five runs in the third inning, highlighted by Ashley Davis? first home run of the season, a two-run blast.
The Lady Eagles added three more runs in the fourth, on a RBI single from Huerta and a two-run home run from Diane Hammes, her second of the season.
The Lady Red Foxes got two runs in the fifth, on a two-RBI single from Annie Castellano.
But Southern Miss scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, thanks to back-to-back doubles from Charity Butler and Allison Bullard, to close out the game.
Danielle Wymer (2-2) got the win for Southern Miss, pitching five innings, scattering five hits, three runs, two earned, walked five and struck out three.
Southern Miss returns to action Friday afternoon, in a 5 p.m., contest against tournament host Mercer.
