Softball Defeats Ball State, McNutt Earns 300th Victory

With the win, Southern Miss finishes the Rebel/Easton Tournament with a 2-2 record. The Lady Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season.
Krystal Crooks (2-0) got the win for Southern Miss, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs and striking out three. Nicki Hellem (1-1) took the loss for
Ball State took a two-run lead in the top of the first, but Southern Miss cut that lead in half on a RBI pop out from Ashley Davis.
The Lady Eagles tied the game at 2-2 in the third, on an RBI single by Jennifer Fox that scored Diane Hammes.
Southern Miss took the lead for good in the fifth, getting an RBI single from Hammes and a RBI pop out from Fox to take a 4-2 lead.
Following a two-RBI double from Taylor Yancey that tied the game at 4-4, Diane Hammes? solo home run gave the Lady Eagles the victory.
Hammes and Fox both finished the game with two RBIs.
Southern Miss returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 15, hosting Louisiana-Monroe in a 3 and 5 p.m., doubleheader rescheduled from
