Basketball Hosts USF In Conference USA Battle
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss wraps up its four-game homestand, hosting USF in a Conference USA matchup at Reed Green Coliseum.
Tip-off for the game is set for 7 p.m., Wednesday. The game will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and analyst Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 6:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
The Golden Eagles enter the game with an overall record of 10-9 and 1-6 in Conference USA play this season, the first under Head Coach Larry Eustachy. USF enters the game with an 8-10 overall record and 1-6 mark in league play following Saturday's 85-71 loss to UAB.
Rashaad Carruth and Michael Ford currently lead the team in scoring with 11.9 and 9.9 points, respectively. The two players also are leading the team in league play with averages of 15.0 and 12.6 points, respectively. Mildon Ambres is leading the team in rebounding with 4.8 per game, while Ford has a team-best 56 assists.
The Bulls, coached by Robert McCullum, currently have two players scoring in double figures, led by Terrance Leather's 17.7 points per game average. Brian Swift follows with 15.9 points an outing. Leather also has a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game, while Swift leads all players with 99 assists on the season.
Today's game marks the 27th overall in the all-time series between the two schools, with Southern Miss holding the 15-11 advantage. USF won the last game, 68-60, in Tampa, Fla., while the Golden Eagles won the last time in Hattiesburg, 70-62.
Following the contest, Southern Miss takes to the road for two-games, traveling to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on Marquette, Feb. 5, and then facing Tulane in New Orleans, on Feb. 9.
