Basketball Takes On Faulkner In Final Exhibition

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Golden Eagles return to the court Monday night as they host Faulkner University in the final exhibition game of the 2005-06 season. Tip-off for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
The Golden Eagles enter the game fresh off a 83-55 victory over the University of Calgary, one that saw senior Jason Forte lead the way with 17 points, and newcomer Kyle Lamonte added 14 points and a game-high 10 assists. Shaun Simpson added 12 points in the game, while David Cornwell and Kendaris Pelton each had 10 points. Lamonte also had a team-best six rebounds.
Faulkner's Eagles have competed in two games so far this season, winning both of them over the University of Mobile, 79-75, and Oakwood. The Eagles are coached by Jim Sanderson. Faulkner, ranked No. 9 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) preseason poll, finished the 2004-05 campaign with a 19-14 overall record. Faulkner won the NAIA National Championship in 2001.
The game will only be broadcast locally on WXRR-FM Rock 104 (104.5) in Hattiesburg, the flagship station of the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. The Southern Miss broadcast team of the Voice of the Golden Eagles John Cox and color analyst and legendary coach M.K. Turk will call the action from Monday's broadcast, which begins at 6:30 p.m., with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
Following the exhibition, Southern Miss takes to the road to open the regular season at the BP Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Golden Eagles face Lamar in the opener on Friday, Nov. 18. The tournament runs through Sunday, Nov. 20.
