Twin Perspectives With Kevis and Trevis Coley October 3, 2005: 10th Diary Entry ? On leading the team in tackles again with 11 apiece against East Carolina, what safety Brandon Sumrall thought of Kevis? hard hitting, opponents reactions to the way that they hit, personality differences and where they rank each other in Division I-A football at their respected positions (middle linebacker and free safety): Trevis: Even though we both had a good game against Kevis: We both had good games against ECU, but we can always be better. The defense started out slow the first half giving up 263 yards, but we played better in the second half and held them to only 100 yards. Trevis: My brother had another big hit in this game that accidentally knocked Brandon Sumrall out (minor concussion), but I don?t remember what hit it was. I don?t think that Sumrall remembered the hit either. Kevis: Sumrall came to me today and said that his eye was swollen after the hit. He told me that I was the one that did it, but I told him that it wasn?t me and that it was ECU?s running back that did it, I just knocked him into you. But we laughed it off and had fun talking about it. Trevis: You won?t find too many people from the opposing team who will congratulate you after you make a good hit on them. But it feels good when you put the ?hit stick on em?, as we call it. It?s great to know that they?re going to be cautious the next time they come your way. Kevis: I had a compliment in our first game of the season against Trevis: Based on our positions, we have to play that way on the field. As the middle linebacker, Kevis has to be the meanest player on the field. And if they get past him, then I get them. Kevis: Though most people expect the linebackers to be nitty-gritty players, Trevis plays that way as a safety. When he has the opportunity to make a hit, he?s like me and tries to knock them out. Trevis: Many people say that my brother always looks mad, but he?s not mad all of the time, he just looks that way. A lot of people are intimidated by him because he always has a frown on his face. He?s not mad, he?s a big teddy bear! Kevis: Trevis has a good personality. Off the field, we talk about a lot of other things in life, but mostly about football. He?s not a mean guy either, though he can be mean on the field. I don?t know what my brother would be, but I?m not a teddy bear! Trevis: I would rank my brother as the number one middle linebacker in Division I-A football. I?m not just saying that because he?s my brother. He?s not an ordinary middle linebacker, because he?s faster than the average linebacker who runs like a safety. He?s fast to the ball, because wherever it?s at, you?ll see number 45 there. Kevis: I haven?t seen all of the safeties in Division I-A football play, but from what I?ve seen from my brother, I?ve got to rank him in the top five in the nation at least, amd possibly the number one safety. He?s a smart player who will hit you when he gets the chance. Trevis: When people mention the Coley twins, they should talk about our work ethic and that we are all business on the field. Kevis: The first thing that should come to mind when people mention the Coley boys are two hard working guys that love the game. They should say that they are two playmakers trying to make a difference on the field.
