Basketball Falls 70-48 To DePaul
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss dropped a 70-48 decision to DePaul Saturday in Reed Green Coliseum.
DePaul?s Drake Diener scored all of his 18 points in the second-half, to spark the Blue Demons to the victory.
With the win, DePaul improves to 13-5 overall, 5-2 in Conference USA, while Southern Miss falls to 10-9, 1-6.
DePaul shot 53 percent (26-49) for the game, as the Golden Eagles connected on 27.7 percent (13-47) from the field. The Blue Demons also held a 41-20 edge in rebounds.
The visitors came out red-hot in the second half, connecting on two three-point baskets in the first minute and a half of the second half, sparking a 12-1 run in the first five minutes.
Southern Miss used a 5-0 run to cut DePaul?s lead to 14 with 10:55 remaining, but the Blue Demons used a 14-4 run to put the game out of reach.
Rashaad Carruth finished with 16 points for Southern Miss, while Mildon Ambres had 12 and David Haywood added 10.
Diener finished with a game-high 18 points, while Quemont Greer had 13 and Sammy Mejia finished with 10.
Southern Miss returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 2, in a 7 p.m. game against USF.
