Basketball Continues Homestand, Set To Battle DePaul
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss returns to the court for the first time in a week, continuing a four-game homestand against visiting DePaul at Reed Green Coliseum.
Tip-off for the game is set for 4 p.m., Saturday. The game will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and analyst Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 3:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
The Golden Eagles enter the game with an overall record of 10-8 and 1-5 in Conference USA play this season, the first under Head Coach Larry Eustachy. The team is coming off its first win of the new year and first in league play following its 61-60 victory over Tulane on Saturday. Rashaad Carruth currently leads the Golden Eagles in scoring with an average of 11.7 points per game, while Michael Ford is averaging 10.3 a game. Mildon Ambres leads the team with 4.7 boards per game, and Ford has a team-best 55 assists.
DePaul, under the direction of Head Coach Dave Leitao, enters today's game with an overall record of 12-5 and 4-2 in Conference USA play following Thursday's 68-55 loss at Memphis. Quemont Greer continues to lead the team in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 20.5 and 7.8 per game, respectively. Sammy Mejia is second with 12.8 points per game, and Drake Diener is averaging 11.3 points per game. Cliff Clinkscales has a team-best 76 assists.
The game marks the ninth overall in the all-time series between the two schools and each school has four wins apiece. DePaul has won three of the last four including last year's game, 80-51.
Following the DePaul game, Southern Miss stays at home to host USF on Wednesday, before traveling to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on Marquette, Feb. 5.
