Basketball Takes On Regional Rival Tulane Saturday
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss continues its four-game home stretch with a Saturday afternoon contest against Tulane at the Reed Green Coliseum.
Tip-off for the game is set for 4:06 p.m., and will be televised regionally by Cox Sports Television in Louisiana. Check your local listings for channel information. The game also will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and analyst Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 3:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
The Golden Eagles (9-8, 0-5 in C-USA), under the direction of first-year Head Coach Larry Eustachy, enter the game after a dropping a 65-63 heartbreaker to Saint Louis on Wednesday. Jasper Johnson continues to lead the team in scoring with 15.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while Rashaad Carruth is second with 11.3 points per game. Jarekus Singleton is third with 10.0 points a game. Michael Ford, who had a career-best 21 points against Saint Louis, currently has a team-best 52 assists.
Tulane, under the direction of Head Coach Shawn Finney, enters the game with an overall mark of 7-9 and 1-4 in C-USA play this season, following Wednesday's 76-73 overtime upset over UAB. Quincy Davis continues to lead the team in scoring with 13.6 points per game, while Marcus Kinzer is averaging 13.1 points. Taylor Rochestie is third with 10.9 points per game. Davis also leads the team in rebounds with 6.1 per game, while Kinzer has a team-best 81 assists.
The game marks the 59th overall in the all-time series between the two schools, with Tulane leading 35-23.
Following the Tulane game, Southern Miss continues with its four-game homestand, hosting DePaul on Jan. 29 and then USF on Feb. 2 to round out the home stretch.
