Basketball Resumes Home Play, Hosts Saint Louis Wednesday
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- After playing three of its first four Conference USA games on the road, Southern Miss returns to Hattiesburg for a four-game league homestand that begins with Saint Louis on Wednesday.
Tip-off for the game is set for 7:07 p.m., and will be televised locally back to St. Louis, Mo., by CCIN-TV in St. Louis. The game also will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and analyst Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 6:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
The Golden Eagles (9-7, 0-4 in C-USA) come into the game on a five-game skid that includes Saturday's 63-53 loss at Houston. The Billikens (3-12, 1-2) have lost six of their last seven, including Saturday on the road at Charlotte.
Southern Miss, under the direction of Head Coach Larry Eustachy, currently has three players averaging double-figures. Jasper Johnson continues to lead the team in scoring with 15.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while Rashaad Carruth is second with 11.0 points per game. Jarekus Singleton is third with 10.5 points a game. Michael Ford currently has a team-best 50 assists.
The Billikens are coming off a 65-59 loss at Charlotte on Saturday. Prior to that game, Saint Louis, under the direction of third-year Head Coach Brad Soderberg, fell to Cincinnati, 69-53, and defeated Tulane in the league opener. Reggie Bryant currently leads the team with 14.2 points per game and has 4.1 rebounds, while Izik Ohanon has 10.9 points per game and a team-best 6.5 rebounding average.
The game marks the 18th overall in the series with Southern Miss holding a 9-8 advantage. Saint Louis, however, has won three-straight in the series.
Following the Saint Louis game, the team hosts Tulane on Jan. 22 and has DePaul coming to town on Jan. 29. A visit from USF on Feb. 2 rounds out the home stretch.
