Softball Begins Preparations For 2005 Season

?We?re a little rusty being off a month,? said Southern Miss Head Coach Gay McNutt, the 2004 Conference
McNutt said the team needs to improve quickly, since start of the season is approaching.
?It?s less than a month a way, and I?m stressing that to the team,? McNutt said. ?We?re going to continue to work hard every day, and we?ll find our starting nine before the season begins.?
McNutt added junior first baseman Ashley Davis sat out the first practice today because of illness, but will be back on the practice field this week.
Southern Miss returns six position starters and two pitchers from last year?s team that finished 33-26 overall, 19-4 in Conference USA and made a trip to the NCAA Region 7 Tournament in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Lady Eagles open their season Saturday, Feb. 5, with a doubleheader against
