Southern Miss Opens Game Week Practice

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? Southern Miss opened game week preparations for its season opening contest at Nebraska Monday, with an hour session at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility, before concluding the final hour and a half at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

The Golden Eagles worked on their season opening game plan for Nebraska, while working on its offensive, defensive, and special teams schemes.

Head Football Coach Jeff Bower said the team had a good practice, after three days off.

?We had a good practice today,? Bower said. ?I was pleased with how the team responded after being off. The players practiced hard, and I thought we got a lot of good work in.?

Bower added that sophomore deep snapper Stephen Daigle, was added to scholarship. Daigle came to school in August as a walk-on and joined the football team. The special teams were experiencing difficulty with the snapping operation for punts. Daigle earned the starting snapper duty for the Nebraska game and held the position for the remainder of the year. He snaped 54 times for the season and only had one punt blocked against Alabama when the punter dropped the ball.

The Golden Eagles will practice all week, before leaving for Nebraska Friday morning.

Southern Miss opens its season Saturday, at Nebraska, in an 11 a.m., nationally televised game on ABC, before opening its home schedule the following Thursday, Sept. 16, against California, in a 6:30 p.m. ESPN contest.
