Hurricane Ivan Forces Southern Miss - Cal To Be Rescheduled
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Due to uncertainty of the path of Hurricane Ivan, Thursday's ESPN game between Southern Miss and Cal will be rescheduled.
Both institutions discussed the situation several times today. Cal announced this afternoon that they could not travel to Hattiesburg on Thursday night due to the potential path of the storm.
"Our utmost concern at this point is the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans and community," said Richard Giannini, Director of Athletics. "We don't know the exact path of the hurricane or the potential damage it may cause and had planned to make a decision Tuesday morning."
A decision about whether the game will be rescheduled for this weekend will be made on Wednesday.
"We are making every attempt to help Cal logistically secure what is needed to possibly play the game this weekend," said Giannini. "We prefer to play this weekend if it could be worked out."
