Football Continues Preparation For Season Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Golden Eagle football team practiced in shoulder pads and shorts for two and a half hours, today, at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.

Southern Miss continued preparations for its season-opening ball game at Nebraska. The team also rehearsed its pregame routine and parts of the special teams.  Members of the offense and defense spent the last 45 minutes of practice running plays together.

?We kept it light because we?re going to go heavier on Wednesday,? Head Football Coach Jeff Bower said. ?We?re going to have a limited scrimmage. We?re just trying to change the routine up. They practiced well yesterday and today.?

Bower said senior wide receiver DaRon Lawrence tinues to improve in practice as he adjusts to the brace supporting his torn ACL.

?He?s getting better,? Bower said. ?I?ve been paying close attention to him. He?s looking better every day. I think he?s still a little tentative, but he?ll get over that mentally.?

Southern Miss opens its season Sept. 11, at Nebraska, in a nationally televised 11 a.m., ABC game, and will host California the following Thursday, Sept. 16, in a 6:30 p.m., ESPN contest.
