Southern Miss Football Practice Report
HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Southern Miss football team continued to prepare for its season opening Sept. 11 game at Nebraska, Tuesday, with a two hour practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility, before rains canceled the final 30 minutes.
The Golden Eagles spent time working on phases of special teams, while the offense and defense spent time fine tuning their knowledge of their respective schemes.
Head Football Coach Jeff Bower was disappointed that practice ended early, but said the practice was good.
?I wish we would?ve gotten it in,? Bower said. ?But we had a lot of night classes and could not wait. We got a lot done, and it was a good practice today.?
Bower said redshirt freshman offensive lineman Chris Clark (ankle) and freshman offensive lineman Phillip Tobias (hamstring) did not practice on Tuesday, and that redshirt freshman defensive lineman Jared Parten (shoulder) is ?not quite where he should be recovering from the shoulder? and will be out for at least two more weeks.
Bower added that redshirt junior linebacker Chris McNair (academics) is trying to enroll in school, and sophomore tight end Alan Whitney should join the team at practice on Thursday.
Southern Miss will not practice on Wednesday, but will return to the field Thursday at
