Third Day Of Preseason Football Practice In The Books HATTIESBURG, Miss.
The team practiced in shoulder pads for the first time and did some light hitting during some drills.
Head Football Coach Jeff Bower continues to be pleased with the practice sessions so far.
"Our concentration on technique and the little things was much better than yesterday," Bower said. "We got on the players a little bit about that, and they got much better with it. We also got good work done in the kicking game."
One thing Bower didn?t like was the cool weather. The team practiced under overcast conditions for much of Wednesday?s practice.
"I?d really rather it be hot," Bower said. "We need some heat, but things should be back to normal soon. We know we will get some heat, but if you?re going to get cool weather it?s good to get it now, so we can get some heat in when we practice twice a day."
The newcomers and varsity players will practice separately for the final time Thursday, before full team practices begin on Friday.
Southern Miss opens its season Sept. 11, at Nebraska, on a nationally televised 11 a.m., game, before opening its home schedule the following Thursday, Sept. 16, against California, in a 6:30 p.m., ESPN contest.
