Golden Eagle Football Players Receive Preseason Recognition
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? With the 2004 football season approaching, Southern Miss football players are being recognized with numerous preseason accolades as the annual football publications are hitting magazine stands across the country.
Athlon Sports Magazine ranked Southern Miss 40th in the nation and has tabbed the Golden Eagles to finish third in Conference
Southern Miss senior linebacker Michael Boley, named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year by Lindy?s, has garnered a lot of pre-season recognition. He was named to Athlon Sports and Phil Steele?s All-American first-team, while he was tabbed second-team All-American by The Sporting News and Lindy?s. Boley and Marvin Young were each named honorable-mention All-American by Street and Smith?s. Boley also was named to first-team All Conference
But Boley isn?t the only Golden Eagle to receive preseason recognition.
Jeremy Parquet, Eric Scott, Marvin Young and John Eubanks have been named first-team All-Conference USA by various publications.
Scott was named to Athlon?s, Street and Smith?s, The Sporting News and Lindy?s first-team list, while Parquet made Athlon?s, Phil Steele?s and Lindy?s. Young was tabbed first-team all conference by Athlon?s and Phil Steele?s, while Eubanks was selected first-team by Athlon?s.
Receiving second-team All-Conference USA recognition were Chris White, Chad Ruffin, Trevis Coley, Darren McCaleb, Eubanks and Young.
White made Athlon?s, Lindy?s, while McCaleb was named to Athlon?s and Lindy?s. Eubanks was selected to the second-team by Phil Steele?s, while Ruffin and Coley made Athlon?s and Young made Lindy?s.
In addition, Young, Scott and McCaleb were each named to Phil Steele?s All-Conference USA third-team, while Kevis Coley, Nate Young, Ruffin and Eubanks were tabbed fourth-team All-Conference USA honorees by Phil Steele?s.
Southern Miss opens its football schedule on ABC, Sept. 11 at Nebraska, with its first home game coming Sept. 16, in an ESPN televised Thursday night game against
