Davis, Pruitt Honored By The All-American Football Foundation HATTIESBURG, Miss. --
Davis and Pruitt were among dozens of players honored to the 2003 All-America and Little All-America teams, announced by the Foundation, which has a membership that includes 165 colleges, and the AAFF President, Jimmie McDowell.
The awards add to the already-decorated careers for both Davis and Pruitt, who both participated in the 2004 Senior Bowl in January.
Davis, a three-time All-American, has been named to many All-America teams this season. In 2003, Davis led Southern Miss in total tackles with 164 and has a team-best 111 solos. He also has 20 tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups, 11 quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery and five forced fumbles.
Davis set the school's all-time tackle record (526), tackle for loss (60.5) and solo tackle (360) records. He is also the all-time leader in Conference USA in two categories, total tackles and tackles for loss. On the school charts, he also ranks in the top five in both career sacks and fumble recoveries.
Pruitt also is among the top defensive players in school history. His 132 total tackles is third among players this season, but Pruitt is the top defensive back in school history in career tackles with 362. He also has five tackles for loss, three interceptions, 10 pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble this season.
The two players helped lead the Golden Eagles to an unprecedented fourth Conference USA championship and an appearance in the 2003 Liberty Bowl.
