Sunshine State Tournament Play Suspended Until Sunday
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Southern Miss softball team will have to wait at least one more day to finish its Sunshine State Tournament opening game against Illinois after heavy rains continue to put a damper on the three-day event.
Tournament officials called off Saturday's action at the Seminole Softball Complex on the campus of Florida State University, forcing the finish of the Lady Eagles' game against the Fighting Illini to be postponed even longer.
The game -- the only one to be played in the tournament thus far -- is scheduled to resume at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT on Sunday, with remaining games to be played afterwards. Southern Miss' remaining schedule is still to be determined.
The stoppage in play leaves the Southern Miss-Illinois opener in with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and a 2-0 Fighting Illini lead.
Updates to Southern Miss' schedule and the result of the current game will be posted on SouthernMiss.com when the information becomes available.
More information also can be found at the Sunshine State Tournament web site.
