Southern Miss-Illinois Opener To Resume Saturday Morning
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The opening game of the Sunshine State Tournament featuring Southern Miss and Illinois was delayed at 1:26 p.m. (ET) on Friday and will not be resumed until Saturday morning at 11 a.m. (ET) due to excessive rain.
Heavy rains in the Tallahassee area lasting Thursday night and much of the day Friday prompted tournament officials to halt the opening day of play, forcing games to be resumed on Saturday. The stoppage in play leaves the Southern Miss-Illinois opener in with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and a 2-0 Fighting Illini lead.
The decision to postpone the rest of the game and the other opening day contests was made by officials at 5 p.m. (ET), 4 p.m. (CT), Friday afternoon.
With six games in total postponed on opening day, the rest of the tournament schedule will be determined at a later time. Updates to Southern Miss' schedule and the result of the current game will be posted on SouthernMiss.com when the information becomes available.
