McCaleb Named Lou Groza Award Semifinalist
Darren McCaleb was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award today. |
? Southern Miss sophomore kicker Darren McCaleb was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award presented by the 2005 FedEx Orange Bowl National Championship, by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission today.
The three finalists will be named on Monday, Nov. 22. Finalists will be honored at the 13th Annual Lou Groza Award Banquet on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the West Palm Beach Marriott in
McCaleb, freshman All-American by The Sporting News, has connected on all nine of his field goals attempts this season, and has converted on 16-of-19 extra-point attempts.

The Lou Groza Award, now in its 13th year, is given annually to the nation?s best kicker and is named after NFL Hall-of-Fame kicker Lou Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza was one of the first people to truly make kicking an art form, helping usher into football the idea that a player could be used exclusively for kicking.
