Sophomore Damion Carter and junior Howard Overby made their first career starts tonight. Carter started at wide receiver, while Overby started at defensive back.
Carter caught a 24-yard reception from Almond in the third quarter, his longest reception of the season, also a career best. Carter now has three catches for 39 yards on the season.
Anthony Harris caught a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter from Almond, his first receiving touchdown of the season. Harris now has two receiving touchdowns in his career.
Sophomore fullback Wayne Hardy scored his fourth career touchdown tonight, on a one-yard run in the third quarter. Hardy has scored touchdowns in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
Southern Miss scored 14 points off turnovers tonight. The Golden Eagles got a one-yard touchdown run by Wayne Hardy off an interception by John Eubanks in the third quarter and a 10-yard touchdown reception by Anthony Harris off a forced fumble by Darrell Bennett that was recovered by Antoine Cash. The Golden Eagles have now scored 212 points this season, 76 points off 219 points this season.
Junior John Eubanks recorded his third interception of the season in the third quarter, and now leads the team in interceptions. Eubanks? three interceptions marked a new career high and he now has six interceptions for his career.
Junior wide receiver Antwon Courington caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dustin Almond in the second quarter, and has a team-high four receiving touchdowns on the season. Courington, who finished the night with six catches for 74 yards, has now caught a pass in 18-consecutive games.
Courington had 64 yards receiving at halftime, marking the most of any Golden Eagle receiver this season at halftime. The previous halftime high was 63 yards, also by Courington, coming Sept. 11 at
Junior quarterback Dustin Almond threw two touchdown passes tonight, and has thrown eight touchdowns on the season.
Sophomore kicker Darren McCaleb connected on a 33-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter. McCaleb has now made all 11 field goal attempts this year.
Senior DaRon Lawrence had one catch for 29 yards tonight, extending his games with a catch streak to 13-straight games.
Redshirt sophomore fullback Wayne Hardy scored his third touchdown of the season and third of his career on a one-yard run in the second quarter today.
For the fifth consecutive game, Southern Miss lost the coin toss in today?s game, receiving the ball on offense first. Southern Miss won its first three coin tosses of the season and deferred all three to the second half.
