The loss to the Tigers marked the second loss in 11 meetings for Southern Miss, both coming at Liberty Bowl Stadium.
Southern Miss falls to 5-3, 4-2 in Conference
Southern Miss took the first lead of the game, on a 33-yard field goal by Darren McCaleb.
From there, the Golden Eagles would outscore the Tigers 9-0 the remainder of the first half.
McCaleb added his second field goal of the contest with 6:56 remaining in the half, capping a 13-play, 69 yard drive, making the score 7-6.
Following a nine-yard Memphis punt by Bobby Robison, Southern Miss took over at the Tiger 35-yard line, and scored its first touchdown of the game, on a 16-yard scoring completion from Almond to Antwon Courington, his fourth touchdown reception of the season, as the Golden Eagles took a 12-7 lead at halftime.

Southern Miss took advantage of the turnover and extended its lead to 19-7, as Almond found Damion Carter for a 24-yard strike to reach the Tiger one-yard line. From there, Wayne Hardy scored from one-yard out, for his fourth touchdown of the season.
The Tigers made the score 19-14 on a 65-yard completion from Wimprine to Ryan Scott.

Following a punt by Luke Johnson, Williams ran 75 yards on the next play, as the Tigers re-took the lead 27-26 with 1:08 to play in the third quarter.
In the final quarter,
Almond finished the game with 202 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Harris finished with 69 rushing yards. Courington caught six passes for 74-yards, marking a season-high for him, while extending his games with a catch streak to 18-games. DaRon Lawrence had a catch for 29-yards, extending his games with a catch streak to 13. McCaleb connected on two field goals in the game and has now converted on all 11 he has attempted this season.
Southern Miss returns to action Saturday, Nov. 20, at TCU.
