Football Has Light Workout, Almond Out For Alabama

Head Coach Jeff Bower said he was pleased with how the team won against the Cougars.
?We made plays when we had to,? Bower said. ?It was a wake-up call for us to play better. We didn?t tackle well, and we had 26 missed assignments on defense. We weren?t consistent on offense, but I thought we were good on special teams.
?But it was also a confidence builder, knowing that no matter what the situation is, you?ve always got an opportunity to win if you make the plays.?
With the win, Southern Miss improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1981, and won the school?s 500th game.
?I told the players that they?re off to a good start and some good things can happen,? Bower said. ?But we?ve got to play better. We can?t make mistakes and we?ve got to make some big plays on offense.?
Bower added that starting quarterback Dustin Almond, who injured his hamstring during his 18-yard touchdown run, will be out against
?I don?t know how long he?ll be out,? Bower said. ?That?s an individual thing. Some guys get better quicker than others. It depends on how he responds.?
