Soccer To Host Two Home Matches

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Southern Miss Lady Eagle soccer team returns to action this weekend, hosting USF, Friday at 4 p.m., and UAB, Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Lady Eagles will be playing at home for the fourth and fifth time this weekend, as the team has been on the road for seven of its 10 matches so far this season.
Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Gail Macklin, the Lady Eagles currently stand 5-4-1 on the season, 1-3 in Conference
Southern Miss won its first Conference USA game of the season last Friday, defeating Cincinnati 1-0 to record the program?s first-ever victory over the Lady Bearcats. The team went for the weekend sweep at
The Lady Eagles have scored 18 goals this season, averaging 1.66 goals a match.
Senior Lauren Prewitt continues to lead the team with nine goals, including three game winners, 38 shots and 20 points.
Sophomore Carly Barkley scored the team?s lone goal over the weekend, and has four on the season. Senior Katie Randolph, junior Katie McClary, sophomores Kim Turner, Andrea Kerkhoff, Sarah Brennan, and freshman Megan Kolts have each recorded single goals this year. Kolts has a team-best three assists.
Seniors Anna Snyder and Leslie Schoeplein have each seen time at goalkeeper this season. Synder has 23 saves and one shutout, while Schoeplein has 10, with two shutouts.
Southern Miss and USF will meet for the seventh time on Friday. The two teams have each won three games in the series history. Southern Miss won the last meeting 1-0 at the Southern Miss Track and Soccer Complex.
USF stands 1-5-2 on the season, 0-2 in Conference
The Lady Bulls have managed just four goals this season.
Junior Erica Lewis has scored a team-high two-goals, five points, and is tied with sophomore Jessica Zabel and junior Megan Morton for the team lead in assists (one). Senior Christine Koester and junior Katie Reed have each scored single goals this season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Breck Bankester has a team-high 39 saves.
UAB, the 2003 Conference USA Champions, enters Sunday?s match with a 5-4 record, including a 2-1 Conference
This will be the seventh meeting between Southern Miss and UAB. The Lady Eagles have a 1-5 series record against the Lady Blazers, and have lost the last three meetings. Southern Miss? only win came in the 2000 season, a 3-2 victory at the Southern Miss Track and Field and Soccer Complex.
The Lady Blazers have scored 18 goals on the season, and average 1.78 goals a match.
Senior Tara Kidwell has a team-high five goals, including two game winners, also leading the team with 11 points. Senior Jenny Rynders and sophomore Laura Richards each have three goals on the season. Rynders and senior Jana Brauer have a team-high two assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Forbis has recorded 49 saves on the season.
