Boley Named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ?
Southern Miss senior linebacker Michael Boley was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at USF this past weekend. This marks the second time this season he has earned the Defensive Player of the Week Award, earning it after the Nebraska game as well.
At USF, Boley finished with eight tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and a forced fumble. He also registered an interception and added a pass breakup in the 27-20 victory.
For that effort, he was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week and the Football Writers Association of America National Defensive Player of the Week.
For the season, he has a team-leading 33 total tackles, 20 solo tackles, three forced fumbles, one sack, four tackles for loss, one interception and one pass breakup.
Memphis' DeAngelo Williams was named the offensive player of the week and UAB's Reggie Lindsey was named the Special Teams' Player of the Week.
Southern Miss will get its first crack at 500 all-time wins in the program's history when it hosts Houston in a nationally televised game on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. at "The Rock". For ticket information contact the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK or locally at 266-5418.
Earlier this season against Nebraska, Boley set a career-high with 20 tackles, 12 solos and eight assists, in Southern Miss? 21-17 win over Nebraska in Lincoln, as the Golden Eagles became the first non-conference opponent to win at Nebraska since Washington won at Nebraska in 1991. The Athens, Ala. native, forced two fumbles and had a tackle for a loss, as the Golden Eagle defense forced five Cornhusker turnovers.
