Basketball Eagles Open Preseason Practice Saturday
HATTIESBURG, Miss.
The Golden Eagles will practice on Saturday afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m. Prior to the first practice, the Southern Miss coaching staff will hold a coaches' clinic for coaches of all basketball levels. The practice will be open to the media.
Saturday's practice will be the first opportunity for Eustachy and his staff to evaluate the 2004-05 Golden Eagles in a team setting, a team which feature just seven returning letterwinners and five incoming signees on the 15-man roster. Included among the returning starters are four players with nine or more starts last season. Three-year starter Dante Stiggers, fellow senior David Haywood, juniors Jason Forte and Jasper Johnson, and sophomore Jarekus Singleton.
From their Saturday start, the Golden Eagles will have three weeks to get ready for their exhibition opener, Nov. 6, against Belhaven, and another 14 days to prepare for a Nov. 20 regular-season opening tournament at Nevada in Reno, Nev.
