Southern Miss Continues Cincinnati Preparation
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles continued its game-week preparation for Cincinnati with an afternoon exercise on Tuesday.
Southern Miss (2-2, 2-0 in Conference USA) takes on the Bearcats (3-1, 1-0), Saturday, at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Head Coach Jeff Bower was pleased with the workout but noted that more concentration was needed in some areas.
"It was pretty good," Bower said. "We had one bad period today, and we repeated it after practice. Other than that it was okay."
It's also been the first week as the starter for freshman quarterback Damion Carter. Bower said the youngster has been improving each day.
"He's done well," Bower said. "He's learning the offense. We had our offense go against the No. 1 defense, so the competition was good. That's how he'll get better. He'll make some mistakes, but he will learn. Every day he will learn."
Bower said that both defensive end Terrell Paul and running back Tim Blackwell should be fine for Saturday's game against the Bearcats. Offensive lineman Travis Cooley, however, may not be ready for the game.
"I don't think he will be ready," Bower said. "We are going to look at him tomorrow, but it doesn't look too good."
The game, which starts at 6 p.m., CT, will not be televised.
