Tulane Teams Capture Titles at Annual Cross Country Invitational

Tulane Men and Women Win Cross Country Titles, Lady Eagles Finish Second
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Tulane University men's and women?s cross country teams earned team titles in the 24th Annual Southern Miss Cross Country Invitational at the Van Hook Golf Course, Lake Sehoy Pavilion side, Friday afternoon, defending their titles from last year's event.
Former Southern Miss runner Paul Kemei captured the men's individual title with a time of 20:00.27 in the four-mile race, with Samson Kipchrchir of South Alabama finishing as the top collegiate runner with a time of 20:49.00. Bessie Hatch of Tulane won the women's 5K-race with a time of 18:41.39.
The Green Wave men's team finished with 34 points, followed by Southeastern Louisiana (78), Ole Miss (101), South Alabama (117), Mississippi College (121), Southern University (130), Spring Hill College (183), Jackson State (87), Mississippi Valley State (188), Alcorn State (274), Centenary (302) and Millsaps (367).
The Tulane women won the event with 36 points, followed by Southern Miss (52), Ole Miss (112), West Florida (143), Southeastern Louisiana (147), South Alabama (156), Millsaps (157), Loyola (223), Mississippi College (229), Southern University (257), Centenary (283), Spring Hill (332) and Mississippi College (401).
Southern Miss Lady Eagles placed four runners in the top 10, led by newcomer Cassandra Goodson who covered the course in 19:17.21, finishing third overall. Junior Becca Wiseman finished sixth with a time of 19:34.40, and Keri White (19:49.76) and Karen Tankersley (19:52.73) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Rounding out the Golden Eagle runners were Rachel Nix in 21:06.13 finished 26th, Liz Palmer 21:17.73 was 33rd, and Tomeka Shaffer 21:37.86 and Alisha Edwards 21:41.06, finished 41st and 42nd, respectively.
Southern Miss returns to action, Sept. 19, in the Alabama Invitational, in Tusacoolsa, Ala.
