Roane to take Head Basketball job at FCAHS
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After seven years as a member of the Southern Miss staff, Assistant Head Basketball Coach Kyle Roane is leaving to become the head coach of Forrest County Agricultural High School in Brooklyn, Miss.
Roane, who joined the Golden Eagle basketball coaching staff in 1996 as a member of Head Coach James Green's first staff, was promoted to his current position as assistant head coach in 2000.
As a member of the Golden Eagle coaching staff, Roane was a part of a number of achievements by the basketball team including winning the 2001 Conference USA regular-season championship.
During his tenure as assistant head coach, Roane was responsible for scouting reports, coordinating the Golden Eagles' travel arrangements, monitoring academic progress, along with his on the floor coaching duties.
Green says Roane has been a vital part of the Golden Eagle basketball program over the past seven seasons.
"Kyle is a hard worker, is knowledgeable and is a loyal coach that has worked in all areas of our program." Green said. "He has been a part of my staff for seven years, and I watched him grow at a rapid pace to become the star that he is now. He can do it all. I have always said he will be a great head coach. In addition to being a great coach, he is a great person. I have lost a coach after seven years, but I have gained such a kind and understanding friend. I will miss him. I wish him and his family nothing but the best. Kyle deserves only the best."
Roane, who graduated from FCAHS in 1990 and holds both his bachelor's (1994) and master's degrees (1997) from Southern Miss, says it is tough to leave the Golden Eagle program.
"I'm honored for the opportunity to be a part of the Southern Miss basketball family." Roane said. "The association with the staff, players, and the fans has made a major impact on me personally and professionally. Coach Green afforded me the opportunity to grow, while being a part of a class program comprised of class people. The chance to coach at FCAHS will allow me another opportunity to be at a special and unique institution. The chance to be the head coach at FCAHS will allow me to give back some of what FCAHS means to me."
