Favre Promotes Southern Miss Football Season Ticket Sales
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Southern Miss Athletic Department has enlisted some impressive help to promote the sale of 2003 football season tickets.
Record-setting Golden Eagle quarterback Brett Favre, the only back-to-back-to-back MVP in NFL history and still the holder of many Southern Miss passing records, was on the USM campus earlier this week for a commercial shoot as part of an advertising campaign that will promote the sale of season tickets, as Head Coach Jeff Bower and his team head into the fast-approaching season. In addition to the television ads, Favre also will appear in print and radio ads when the campaign starts later this month.
?We are extremely pleased that Brett has graciously agreed to be the spokesman for Southern Miss football this year," said Southern Miss director of athletics Richard Giannini. "From a notoriety standpoint there is not a better sports personality in America to speak on behalf of Southern Miss. We are extremely fortunate that Brett and his wife Deanna have the desire to reside in Hattiesburg and continue to strongly support their alma mater.?
Favre has been an active supporter since ending his Southern Miss playing career. In addition to his participation in the current ticket sales campaign, he and his wife, Deanna, hosted a major Golden Eagle fund-raiser at their new home in Hattiesburg earlier in the summer
Favre sees his efforts to promote Southern Miss as being a positive influence in his "chosen" hometown as well as showing his love for the Golden Eagles. ?By moving back to Hattiesburg, I think that says a lot about what I think about the town and the University. I truly enjoy doing what I feel is not a whole lot for the University but as much a I can. I really don?t see why other guys don?t do more of it. Without Southern Miss, I wouldn?t be where I am today. And that?s the truth. They were the only school that offered me a scholarship."
Favre still holds Golden Eagle records in passing yardage as well as passing attempts and completions. He also led his Green Bay team to the NFL championship in Super Bowl XXXI. During his Southern Miss career the Eagles beat such teams as Mississippi State, Florida State, Alabama and Auburn.
