Golden Eagle Track Teams Have One Last Tune-up Meet
BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Southern Miss men and women's track and field teams continued to show improvement at the final meet before heading to the Conference USA Outdoor Championship, posting several outstanding performances, Saturday at the LSU Twilight Meet.
The Lady Eagles added one more to the list of regional qualifiers with Sabrina Norwood registering a 5?7?-height in the high jump. Angela Johnson recorded a time of 11.88 in the 100 meters, finishing fourth and just missing the automatic qualifying mark by .08. Jessica Crump finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.09. Karen Tankersley lowered her time in the 1,500 meters, running a 4:58.24. Keri White finished third in the 5,000 meters, posting a time of 18:45.12. The 4x100-meter relay team, Kasey House, Angela Johnson, Candi Johnson and Prudence Reid, ran a season-best time of 46.39 and finished second. The 4x400 relay team also finished second with a time of 3:46.08. Dasha Wakefield was fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 11?3.75?.
Cedric Norman finished first in the high jump with a height of 7?0.50?. Shane Brandford and Marvin Lucas turned in season-best performances in the 100 meters with a time of 10.76 and 10.77, respectively. Marcus Polk finished eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.46, while Brandford posted a personal-best in the 200 with a time of 21.92. Kenny Johnson ran a season-best 47.61 in the 400 meters, finishing second and Marvin Williams turned in a season-best time of 48.50. Jerry Teachey was seventh in the 800 with a season-best time 1:55.96. LaKeith Benson posted a season-best time of 1:59.41 in the same event. Matthew Cheruiyot was second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:00.00. Steve Griffin finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles and posted a season-best time 55.11. The 4x400-meter relay ran a season-best time of 3:11.94 for fourth place. Lucas finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 23?10?. Matt Fant had a season-best mark in the pole vault at 15?7? and finished third. Noah Bryant was sixth in the discus with a throw of 155?5?, while Casey McGehee posted a season-best throw of 145?01. Conrad Chanove finished seventh in the javelin with a throw of 197?4?. Eric Lyon and Bryant finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the hammer with throws of 141?2? and 139?9?.
The Golden Eagle teams take a week off before heading to the Conference USA Championship in Charlotte, N.C., May 15-17.
