Lady Eagles Split Two Extra-Inning Battles With Saint Louis

Game One: Saint Louis 1, Southern Miss 0 (Eight innings)
Adrie Bogaars doubled and scored AshLeigh Williams for the winning run for Saint Louis (15-13, 8-11 in C-USA) in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs, Williams reached first after Jessica Holaway?s inside pitch skimmed the top of her helmet for a hit-by-pitch. Bogaars, then, swung at the first pitch and lined a shot to right center, and Williams reached home.
Nicole Bohnenstiehl went the distance and threw a two-hit shutout. She recorded 14 strikeouts and one walk for her seventh shutout of the season.
Bohnenstiehl, who transferred from Southern Miss (21-25, 7-10) after her freshman year in 2000, held a no-hitter for 6 2/3 innings. Going into the top of the seventh, she surrendered a walk in the second inning and then retired 15-straight batters.
With two outs in the seventh, Sarah Boyd ended the ?no-no? with a single that dropped into right field. Auriel Jenkins followed with a single up the middle, and the Lady Eagles had two on the bags. Ashley Davis faced a 3-2 count, but the freshman took the called strike that ended the inning.
Holaway held her own in the first game, pitching 7.2 innings and collecting seven hits, one run, three walks and six strikeouts. She is now 10-14 on the year.
Game Two: Southern Miss 3, Saint Louis (Eight innings)
Heather Bell pulled off the suicide squeeze to score Ashley Brenan for the winning run in the top of the eighth. The Lady Eagles collected a run in each of the final three innings and outhit the Billikens, 6-4, in the final game.
Danielle Hatfield pitched all eight innings for Southern Miss. The junior gave up four hits, two runs and no walks and struck out one to improve her record to 6-3.
Facing a 2-0 deficit, Saint Louis loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch-hitter Logan Justice singled up the middle and scored Adrienne May and pinch-runner Jessica Saucedo, knotting the score and sending the game to extra innings.
Amanda Brown batted two-for-four in the second game and put the Lady Eagles on the board, in the sixth inning, with her double to right center, plating Bell who was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Auriel Jenkins made it 2-0 in the seventh with a solo blast for her fifth home run of the season.
Jenkins was 1-for-3 in the game with a run and an RBI. Brenan was 1-for-3 with a run and a double, and Jessica Huerta was 1-for-2.
Bohnenstiehl went the distance again, surrendering six hits, three runs, no walks and eight strikeouts. Her totals of the day were 16 innings, eight hits, three runs, no walks and 22 strikeouts, making her record 12-8.
The rubber match of the series begins tomorrow, Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. Both teams are looking for wins to remain in contention for the Conference USA Tournament, May 8-10.
