FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Southern Miss softball team continues its long road trip with a stop in Razorback country to face Arkansas in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1, beginning at 3 p.m. Both games will have Live Stats on SouthernMiss.com.
The Lady Eagles and the Razorbacks are looking for victories, as Southern Miss is currently on a two-game losing streak and Arkansas has been on a seven-game drought from success. The Lady Eagles lost the last two games in a Conference USA series against Louisville, and both defeats were 2-0 shutouts. Arkansas has not won since March 22, when the Razorbacks claimed a 2-1 win over Florida.
Last season, the Razorback swept Southern Miss in a doubleheader opening the Southern Miss Softball Complex. Arkansas won the first game 2-1 and the second game 3-2. UA leads the series against USM, 2-1, with the Lady Eagles winning the first-ever meeting in 2000, 7-0, at the Texas-Arlington Tournament.
Amanda Brown held a hot bat over the weekend, batting .556 (5-for-9) in the last three games against Louisville, with two doubles and a triple. She improved her season batting average to .298 and now leads the Lady Eagles in hitting.
Jessica Holaway has earned wins in her last three starts in the pitching circle. Over the weekend, the junior recorded her fifth shutout of the season and improved her record to 8-9 and her ERA to 1.89. In 115.2 innings, she has produced 34 walks and 75 strikeouts, and opponents are batting .233 against her.
Ruth Atkins leads Arkansas with a .301 batting average. She has four doubles, a triple, two home runs and 14 RBIs. Heather Schlictman leads the Razorback pitchers with a 2.79 ERA, and she is 6-11 on the year with 30 walks and 101 strikeouts in 105.1 innings.
Southern Miss travels to Madison, Miss., to face Mississippi State in the F&M Bank Fastpitch Classic, a single game starting at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 3. The inaugural event will be held at Liberty Park.
