Louisville Defeats Lady Eagles, Wins Series
LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? The Southern Miss softball team lost its second-consecutive game to Louisville today, 2-0, at Ulmer Stadium. The Cardinals recorded its second-straight shutout, holding the Lady Eagles to four hits and winning the three-game series against USM.
Nicole Sparks tripled in the third, scoring Shannon Nord and Aja Sherman for the Cardinals (14-13, 6-2) only scoring in the game. Sherman batted a perfect 2-for-2 with a run.
Krystal Herold (3-5) tallied her second-straight shutout against Southern Miss (15-19, 3-6). She recorded another four-hitter with three strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles challenged in the seventh, when Amanda Brown started the frame with a single and pinch-hitter Ashley Davis followed with single. Ashley Brenan popped up, and pinch-hitter Tammy Edwards hit into a fielder?s choice, as pinch runner Kim Bishop got out at second. Danielle Wymer popped up to the shortstop to end the inning.
Brown was 2-for-3 at the plate, leading the Lady Eagles. Heather Bell was 1-for-3 with a triple, and pinch-hitter Ashley Davis was one-for-on. Wymer (4-8) collected the loss, giving up five hits and two runs and striking out one.
Southern Miss remains on the road, traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., for a doubleheader against Arkansas on Tuesday, April 1. Both games will have Live Stats on SouthernMiss.com.
