NATCHITOCHES, La. ? The Southern Miss softball team continues its tour of Louisiana with a stop at Northwestern (La.) State for a doubleheader on Tues., March 11, at 5 p.m. The Lady Eagles (7-14) are seeking to halt their seven-game losing streak and hope to repeat what occurred when the Lady Demons (2-16) came to Hattiesburg, on Feb. 11.
Southern Miss hosted Northwestern State in a doubleheader for its home opener, sweeping the Lady Demons, 4-2 and 5-4. Since then, the Lady Eagles have not recorded a win at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
NSU also is experiencing limited success this season. The Lady Demons bring a five-game losing streak into the two-game matchup. Their two wins on the year include a 3-2 upset over Notre Dame on Feb. 28, and a 4-1 victory over Louisiana Tech on March 5.
Sarah Boyd leads the Lady Eagles with a .345 batting average, claiming five doubles, two home runs, 12 RBIs and a .545 slugging percentage. Last week, in five games, she batted 5-13 (.385) with a run scored, two doubles, a home run and six RBIs.
The Lady Eagle pitching staff took a turn for the worse last week. After going four-straight games without surrendering an earned run, the Southern Miss hurlers have given up 35 earned runs in the last six games. The team ERA went from 1.59 to 3.01 during that span.
Jessica Holaway (3-8) is seeking her first win since shutting out Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 19. She currently holds a 2.25 ERA with 46 strikeouts.
Sarina Noack is batting .420 for Northwestern State. She is 21-for-50 with five runs and two RBIs. Lindsey Danzy is batting .328 with five doubles and five RBIs.
Loni Rasberry leads the Lady Demon pitchers with a 1.58 ERA. She is 1-4 on the year with 22 strikeouts.
Southern Miss ends the Louisiana excursion in Lake Charles, with a doubleheader at McNeese State on Thursday, March 13, at 5 p.m.
